Chicago Still & Box Alarm 12-13-11

Hank Sajovic captured some powerful images and shared a detailed account of the fire that broke out yesterday in Chicago. According to his description, on December 13, 2011, units from the 14th Battalion were dispatched to a still alarm regarding a fire at 4018 West Cermak Road. Engine 38 was the first to arrive on the scene and quickly identified a two-story brick apartment building engulfed in flames, measuring approximately 25 feet by 60 feet. Upon arrival, Truck 32, as the second-due ladder company, positioned themselves at the rear of the structure and immediately noticed severe fire involvement at the back of the building. The officer in charge promptly informed the 14th Battalion about the situation and requested a box alarm due to the intensity of the fire. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control using three separate hose lines. Authorities reported that the building appeared to be vacant, and the cause of the fire remained suspicious, prompting the Office of Fire Investigations to conduct a thorough investigation at the scene. In one image, firefighters can be seen pulling a line off Engine 109, showcasing their immediate response to the emergency.
