New engine goes right into service

Buffalo Grove Fire Department officially placed their new Ferrara Igniter engine into service just after lunch today. Within three hours, the unit was already out on two medical calls and one serious vehicle extrication. The first call came when police reported a car had driven into the Rainbow Cleaners at 482 Half Day Road, near Buffalo Grove Road. Upon arrival, officers found three people injured, including the driver who was trapped inside the vehicle.

Firefighters quickly worked to remove the roof of the Lexus before carefully extracting the driver. Fortunately, the driver did not appear to be seriously hurt. The other two victims were treated on-site and signed release forms, so they weren’t transported to the hospital. The incident highlighted how quickly the new engine was able to respond and assist in a real emergency, proving its value to the community.
