Wauconda Box Alarm 1-22-11

The Wauconda Fire Department, part of MABAS Division 4, responded to a single-family house fire on Madison Avenue at approximately 1:00 PM today. The incident occurred at 1116 Madison Avenue, where firefighters discovered significant fire in the garage that had spread into the main house and attic. Due to the intensity of the blaze, the call was upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm, prompting mutual aid from multiple departments across the region. At the time of the fire, no one was inside the home. While the garage suffered extensive damage, including destruction of a vehicle parked inside, the main house remained largely intact, with damage limited to the area directly behind the two-story garage. Firefighters from Lake Zurich, Lake Villa, Nunda, Barrington, Round Lake, Mundelein, Countryside, and Long Grove assisted in suppressing the flames. This detail highlights how the structure’s design may have contributed to the fire’s spread. Several gusset plates supporting the lightweight roof trusses in the garage failed during the fire, contributing to structural instability. Mutual aid units were staged along Bonner Road, where several apparatuses from Round Lake, Mundelein, Countryside, and Long Grove were seen waiting for further instructions.
