On Friday afternoon, April 14th, 2017, emergency responders from both Prospect Heights and Arlington Heights were dispatched to the intersection of Hintz and Schoenbeck Roads due to reports of a serious traffic accident involving a rollover. Upon arrival, crews discovered a chaotic scene where a minivan had left the road and collided with a stationary vehicle parked in a nearby lot. The driver, an elderly individual, was inside the van but fortunately seemed to be okay.
The more dramatic incident involved a Nissan SUV that had flipped over completely during the crash before landing back on its wheels on the adjacent sidewalk. Interestingly, all individuals involved in this part of the collision were already outside the vehicle by the time firefighters arrived, suggesting they might have managed to exit unaided or received assistance from bystanders.
The medical team transported the driver of the minivan to a local hospital using Prospect Heights Ambulance 9. However, two passengers from the SUV chose not to seek further medical attention or receive transportation, opting instead to leave the scene independently.
Attached are several images capturing different angles of the aftermath. These photos, taken by Larry Shapiro, offer a clear view of the damage sustained by the vehicles involved. One image highlights the severely damaged minivan, while others focus on the overturned SUV, showcasing the extent of the rollover and the subsequent impact on its structure. Another shot provides a broader perspective of the crash site, illustrating how multiple vehicles were affected in this high-energy collision.
Despite the severity of the situation, it appears that no one suffered critical injuries, which is fortunate given the nature of the crash. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safe driving practices and the potential dangers posed by even seemingly minor accidents. As always, we hope for the swift recovery of those affected and extend our gratitude to the first responders who quickly attended to the scene.
