Box Alarm in Burnham 4-30

Yesterday afternoon, the Burnham Fire Department got multiple calls about a fire at a three-story apartment complex located at 14000 South Torrence Avenue. When the first responding units arrived, they encountered heavy smoke billowing from the first floor of the building. Due to the intensity of the situation, the department quickly escalated the alarm to a MABAS Box Alarm, which brought additional support from neighboring fire departments. Mutual aid companies from Calumet City, Dolton, South Holland, and even Munster, Indiana, swiftly responded to the call. Their combined efforts helped bring the fire under control relatively quickly, and fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries. It was impressive to see how well-coordinated the response was, especially considering the involvement of multiple jurisdictions. One of the individuals who captured some of the action was Tim Olk. Although he arrived after the fire had been extinguished, he generously shared several photographs of the scene as well as the firefighting apparatus that had been deployed. His images provide a fascinating glimpse into the operation and the teamwork involved. In one picture, you can see firefighters taking a moment to relax after successfully putting out the flames. Another shot highlights Calumet City’s Truck 309, which was strategically positioned in the 'A' Sector and played a crucial role in supporting the hand lines. Burnham Engine 2014, a 2007 HME Ahrens Fox model, was the very first engine on the scene, and it’s clearly visible in another image. South Holland Engine 665, built by Smeal on an HME chassis, was also part of the支援 team and ready to assist Burnham if needed. Additionally, Burnham Engine 2016, a 1996 HME SFO Luverne model, was parked down the street from the fire building, providing backup when necessary. Munster Indiana’s Fire Department, as part of MABAS Division 24, was scheduled to respond with their Truck 2221, an American LaFrance/LTI tower ladder. This piece of equipment would have been invaluable in accessing hard-to-reach areas of the building. The Third District Fire Chief's Association canteen unit was also present on site, offering much-needed refreshments and assistance to the firefighters during their break. Their presence underscored the importance of后勤 support in such high-stress situations. Overall, it was heartening to witness the collaborative effort between different fire departments to handle this emergency effectively. Tim Olk’s photos beautifully capture the dedication and professionalism of these firefighters, reminding us of the critical work they do every day.
