The Pink Heals Tour 2010 has been on quite the journey through Illinois, stopping in places like Rockford, the IAFC trade show in Chicago, Matteson, Naperville, and most recently in Buffalo Grove. Last night in Buffalo Grove, the tour really got colorful when a Mount Prospect police car with pink graphics joined the three pink fire engines. Additionally, the Buffalo Grove IAFF Honor Guard lent their support to the cause. These three trucks, two EONE Hush engines and a Spartan FMC Sentinel, have served communities such as Bangor, ME; Tyler, TX; and Henry, VA.
On the Pink Heals Tour's Facebook page, they describe themselves as "the ‘Cares Enough to Wear Pink’: Guardians of the Ribbon.†They're an organization that drives pink fire trucks across the U.S. to support women fighting cancer while encouraging men to get involved. The initiative began in Phoenix, Arizona, thanks to firefighter Dave Graybill. Their mission is to raise awareness about the fight against cancer and inspire men to back the women in their communities. They’ve set a special day—October 25, 26, and 27—when they’d love for everyone in the community, including public safety personnel, local leaders, and citizens, to wear something pink to show solidarity with those battling cancer. It’s all about bringing hope to those who need it most.
Firefighter Steve Rusin from the Buffalo Grove Fire Department has been busy selling pink and blue t-shirts to help raise funds for the Pink Heals Tour.
These pink fire trucks touring the country have made quite the impact, drawing attention wherever they go. Each truck is covered with messages from individuals whose lives have been touched by cancer. Another inspiring moment occurred when a message was added to 'Karen', the FMC Sentinel pumper. The Buffalo Grove Fire Department IAFF Honor Guard also played a significant role, escorting the trucks to various events, including a baseball game and exhibition.
The community turned out in full force to greet the arrival of these unique vehicles, with families eagerly welcoming them. A comprehensive photo gallery showcasing the entire experience can be viewed HERE.
It’s heartwarming to see such efforts being made to support those affected by cancer. The Pink Heals Tour is more than just a group of decorated trucks—it’s a movement driven by compassion and a shared desire to make a difference.
