Broadview Fire Department Training 5-10-12

The Broadview Fire Department recently held an intensive live fire training exercise on Thursday at the intersection of Filmore and 17th Street. The team focused on simulating room fires within a vacant house, allowing participants to experience how quickly a structure can become fully engulfed. Tim Olk was present during the event and captured several compelling images showcasing the firefighters in action, the firefighting equipment, and the intensity of the flames. Additionally, other departments from the MABAS Division 20 joined in these training drills, providing valuable cross-training opportunities. As the fire spread throughout the house, the firefighters demonstrated their skills in managing challenging situations. The images capture moments of high tension and focus, such as when a Broadview firefighter ascended to the bucket of a ladder truck to tackle fire burning fiercely through the roof. Meanwhile, another striking photograph shows Berkeley Engine 351—a Spartan/Darley combination—parked strategically in front of the burning building, ready to support operations. One particularly noteworthy image highlights Broadview’s unique Grumman AerialCat tower ladder mounted on an American LaFrance Century Series chassis. This vehicle is a standout piece of equipment, offering versatility and reach that proved crucial during the simulation. Another captivating shot displays Broadview's tower ladder being elevated to deploy a master stream, an essential tactic for controlling large-scale fires. The training session was not only about practicing techniques but also about fostering teamwork and communication among different departments. Tim’s extensive collection of photos beautifully documents every aspect of this intense day of practice. To view more of his gallery, you can click [here](insert link). This type of hands-on training is invaluable for firefighters, helping them prepare for real-world scenarios where quick thinking and precise execution can mean the difference between success and failure. It’s clear that the Broadview Fire Department, alongside their partner agencies, is committed to maintaining readiness and enhancing their capabilities through ongoing education and realistic simulations.
