At 11:03 am today, the massive liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport vessel "Northwest Sea Eagle" successfully arrived at Shenzhen LNG Dapeng receiving station terminal, carrying approximately 60,000 tons of LNG. This marks a historic moment as it is the first LNG-specific ship to dock at a Chinese port, making Shenzhen the country's first port equipped with LNG processing capabilities.
According to a report from the Shenzhen Maritime Safety Administration, the "Northwest Sea Eagle" transported LNG from Australia to the Guangdong Dapeng receiving station. The ship is expected to remain in Shenzhen Port for eight days.
The Dapeng Bay LNG project is now in its final construction phase and is set to officially launch in June. With a total investment of 2.9 billion yuan, this project is not only China’s first LNG pilot initiative but also a key energy strategy project in South China.
To ensure the safe arrival and operation of the "Northwest Sea Eagle," the Shenzhen Maritime Organization has developed a strict supervision plan for its maiden voyage. During the ship's entry, the Shenzhen Ship Traffic Management Center will implement traffic control in the surrounding waters, prohibiting any unrelated vessels from entering within a 1,500-meter radius of the LNG ship. This measure aims to maintain order and enhance safety in the port area.
In addition, to strengthen the management of bulk LNG transportation in Shenzhen Port, the Shenzhen Maritime Safety Administration has officially issued and implemented the "Shenzhen Port Ships LPG Safety Management Regulations (Trial)." This is the first set of regulations in China specifically targeting the management of bulk liquefied natural gas ships.
The "Northwest Sea Eagle," with a total tonnage of 106,283, measuring 262.44 meters in length and 47.20 meters in width, is registered under the United Kingdom. This voyage carried 126,000 cubic meters of LNG, traveling from Australia to the Dapeng receiving station. As the ship safely moored at Dapeng Pier, it marked the beginning of Shenzhen’s natural gas era.
This event not only highlights Shenzhen’s growing role in the energy sector but also signals a significant step forward in China’s efforts to diversify its energy sources and promote cleaner fuel alternatives.
