Recently, the core cracking gas compressor of Lanzhou Petrochemical Company's 600,000-ton ethylene renovation and expansion project successfully completed a 13-hour trial run. All performance tests met the technical specifications, marking a major milestone in the project's progress. This successful test run is a critical step toward the full-scale commissioning of the ethylene plant.
The smooth operation of the cracking gas compressor is essential for the next phase of the project, which includes purging, replacing, and drying the system. Despite challenges such as tight deadlines and delays in equipment delivery, the construction teams managed to complete the installation of the compressor, along with related civil works, electrical, and instrumentation systems within four months.
During the trial run, the ethylene engineering team at Lanzhou Petrochemical closely collaborated with the PC contractor and construction company to address several technical issues. These included adjusting the position of the front and rear condensers, which were found to be too low during the turbine test run, and correcting the inaccurate low-level alarm in the high-level oil tank. In addition, various manholes, blind flanges, and short pipes were installed and removed to ensure safe and efficient trial operations of the cracking gas compressor.
This achievement highlights the strong coordination among all parties involved and marks a significant step forward in the completion of the large-scale ethylene project. The successful trial run paves the way for the next stages of the project and brings Lanzhou Petrochemical closer to its production goals.
