Submersible pump leakage simple troubleshooting method

Submersible pumps often leak due to aging or damage to the sealing components. In addition to replacing the seal, there are several simple and effective methods you can try to fix the issue. First, if the rubber seal has lost its elasticity due to long-term use, remove the old seal and cut a piece of paper or cloth (0.3–3.5 mm thick) into a groove slightly larger than the original gasket. Place this material into the groove before re-installing the original seal. This helps restore some of the lost compression and improves the seal. Second, if the nylon seal seat inside the rubber seal is worn, you can remove the seal and rotate it to a different position for reinstallation. If the fastening spring loses its elasticity or breaks, replace it with a wire of suitable diameter, ensuring it's tight enough to hold the seal in place. Third, if the first sealing ring is severely worn, remove the nylon ring and apply some asbestos-based grease. Wrap a thin stainless steel sheet around the area, making sure it’s slightly higher than the original nylon seat. Then fill the space with more grease and secure the nylon seat using a bolt to compress it properly. Fourth, if the seal box and cast iron housing have lost their elasticity, take out the seal and cut a piece of cardboard (about 1–6 mm thick) to fit the size of the cavity. Insert the cardboard into the housing before reinserting the seal. This helps maintain the proper pressure and prevents leaks. Fifth, if the rubber ring around the oil hole is damaged, you can use a piece of tape, cut it to fit slightly larger than the bolt, and place it along with a flat washer in the hole. This temporary fix can help prevent oil leakage until a permanent replacement is available. These methods are cost-effective and can extend the life of your submersible pump without requiring complete disassembly or professional assistance. Always make sure to clean all parts thoroughly before reassembling them to avoid further issues.
