6.29 Guangzhou Tanker Explosion

On June 29, a major traffic accident occurred at 4:30 am on the Nangang section of Guangzhou Yanjiang Expressway, causing 20 deaths and 27 injuries. At present, the cause of the accident has been identified. At 12:30 on the 29th, the accident site was basically cleared and no new casualties were found.

After preliminary investigation, this was a chain accident caused by a traffic accident. At 4:30 on the 29th of the 29th, along the Nangang section of the Viaduct Expressway from Guangzhou to Shenzhen, a traffic accident involving a truck (plate: Xiang L66215) and a tanker (plate: Xiang B83393) rear-end collision occurred.

The traffic accident caused the leakage of solvent oil contained in tank trucks (load 40 tons), which flowed down the freeway drainage pipe to the bottom of the bridge, caused deflagration in the event of a fire, and caused heavy casualties in the container yard and surrounding buildings. 20 people have been killed and 27 injured. There was a trace of burned area in the range of about 1 km. A timber factory near the highway was almost completely destroyed. Nearly a thousand square meters of timber factory roof flew, causing collapse. There were dozens of trucks and trolleys in the whole fire area, all of which were burned. In addition, a fire-fighting caravan involved in the rescue on the highway was also burned.

On the morning of the 29th, after the accident disposal meeting was over, Wan Qingliang, Secretary of the Guangzhou Municipal Party Committee, visited the hospital on behalf of the municipal party committee and the municipal government to visit and escort the wounded. Chen Jianhua, the mayor of Guangzhou, took the command at the scene of the accident and was responsible for the accident site disposal.

Relevant departments in Guangzhou are taking active measures to carry out the accident handling work. On the one hand, the accident site is further cleaned and closed. On the other hand, the expressway of the incident section is temporarily closed and experts are organized to test the safety of the bridge.
