Michelin and Emirates sign 10-year agreement to provide tires for Airbus A380 fleet

Michelin and Emirates recently signed a 10-year supply agreement, and Michelin will provide cutting-edge radial aircraft tires for the Airbus A380 fleet. Michelin will become the exclusive tire supplier for this large aircraft with delivery from July 2008 to June 2013. Emirates Airline will have the world's largest fleet of A380s, with 58 orders currently in place.

The signing of the agreement confirmed Michelin’s importance to Emirates Airlines, the largest customer of the A380. By selecting Michelin tyres, Emirates has demonstrated its strong confidence in Michelin's zero-growth radial tyre (NZG). Michelin's recent zero-growth radial tire (NZG) has been widely used on Airbus A340-500 models for its superior resistance to impact and damage. Due to their longer service life, these tires complete 30% to 40% more trips than ramps. They also reduce the total weight of the aircraft by 360 kg, which significantly saves fuel. Each of the A380’s main landing gears will be equipped with 20 NZG technology tires. Each tire will be adjusted according to the weight and speed of the aircraft and will enable the aircraft to carry a payload of 33 tons at a speed of 378 km/h.

The tire was developed at the Michelin Technical Center in La Défense, France, and produced at the Michelin Global Aircraft Tire Manufacturing Centre, the Bourges, France factory. In order to meet the demand of the radial tire market, the plant will double its production capacity from 2006 to 2012.
