15 wonderful moments in BMW's 100 years

The BMW Group will celebrate its 100th birthday on March 7. In this 100-year period, there are moments when the values ​​are remembered and proud, and there are many other major events that determine the direction of the company's progress. 1. BMW is established


The pioneers of Karl Rapp and Gustav Otto officially opened up the glorious development of BMW. In 1916, Gustav Otto and Bayerische Flugzeug-Werke AG (BFW) merged at the request of the government. In 1917, Rapp Motorenwerke changed its name to Bayerische Motoren Werke GmbH (BMW), which was later converted to AG in 1918. In 1922, BMW subsequently merged the engine manufacturing business including the company's own and brand name into BFW. BFW was founded on March 7, 1916, and this became the official founding day of BMW and it went down in history.

2. The change of BMW logo


Since 1917, all of the company's products have been equipped with BMW logos based on the Bavarian logo, which continues the logo's blue and white color scheme. In the late 1920s, the symbol of the rotary propeller symbol first appeared in advertisements, and has since evolved several times since then. From 1917 to today, the BMW logo has undergone six changes. Today, this blue sky and white cloud propeller logo is one of the world’s most widely known, most emotional, and powerful symbols.

 

3, BMW's first motorcycle


In 1923, BMW's first motorcycle R 32 was launched. Before that, the company's main business was supplying engines instead of building models. 4, company relocation and new start


After the end of the First World War, the production of aero engines in Germany was forbidden, forcing BMW to switch to brakes and inboard engines for railways. After the company was sold to Knorr Bremse AG in 1920, the financier Camillo Castiglioni acquired the engine manufacturing business as well as all employees, production facilities, company names and blue White logo, and afterwards completed the merger with BFW. In the same year, the company relocated to BFW's factory near Oberwiesenfeld's military airport in the outskirts of Munich, which is still home to the BMW Group headquarters and major factories.

8. BMW Headquarters and Museum


In 1970, BMW began building its headquarters office building.
