Zhang Yuliang: Two problems in the development of scientific instruments in China

Introduction: Recently, at the CIOAE2011 site, the development status of China's online analytical instruments and the future development trend and other issues were discussed. Among them, I was privileged to interview professor Zhang Dongliang, professor of East China University of Science and Technology and director of the National Biochemical Engineering Technology Research Center. I asked Professor Zhang Xiaoliang to introduce the scientific research projects undertaken by him and the ideas for the development of scientific instruments in China.

On November 9-10, 2011, the 4th China Online Analytical Instrument Application and Development International Forum was organized by the Analytical Instruments Branch of the China Instrument and Control Society and the Analytical Instrument Branch of the China Instrument and Meter Industry Association and organized by Beijing Xiongying International Exhibition Co., Ltd. The cum exhibition (CIOAE2011) was grandly opened at the Beijing International Convention Center.

At the CIOAE2011 site, we discussed the development status of our online analytical instruments and the future development trends.

Prof. Zhang Xiaoliang first introduced the importance of online analysis to biological processes. The biological process is the use of large-scale cell culture to produce products. How can they be cultivated? Need to measure various parameters such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, etc., according to the measured data to optimize various conditions, cells can be a good "long" up to get the products we need. Therefore, online analysis plays a very important role in biological processes.

As for which types of instruments will be used in biological processes and which parameters to measure, Professor Zhang Xiaoliang gave a detailed introduction to the development of biological process analysis. From the initial measurement of the external cells to the internal measurement of cells, there are both measurement methods. Direct detection also has indirect detection. The contents of the measurement include thermal measurement, chemical measurement, biomass measurement, metabolite measurement, intracellular component measurement, and cell morphology measurement.

The instruments used in biological processes include on-line mass spectrometry, on-line spectroscopy, and on-line electrochemistry. Professor Zhang Xiaoliang said, "The measurement of biological processes uses almost all types of analytical instruments."

Next, Prof. Zhang Xiaoliang introduced the research and development priorities of the national "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" science and technology support program "Development of a new generation of advanced scientific instruments for biological processes such as biomedicine, bioenergy, and environmental biological treatment" that he has undertaken. Achievements and final project expectations.

The most important feature of this project is that bioenergy, biopharmaceuticals, etc. are all biological processes and the measuring instruments used are versatile, so the project is positioned in the development of scientific instruments in biological processes. The biological process is a forward-looking and national key development area in the future. Therefore, the first Ministry of Science and Technology project undertaken since the establishment of the Yangtze River Delta Scientific Instrument Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance was this project.

In this project, the process of exhaust gas measurement for biological processes, mass spectrometer, on-line near-infrared mid-infrared spectroscopy for measuring the composition of culture fluids, biomass measuring instruments, microscopic morphology measuring instruments for cells, and microscopic metabolic flux measuring instruments for isotope 13C are listed as R & D focus. Prof. Zhang Xiaoliang also introduced in detail the current status of the detection methods used in the five measurement fields and the objectives to be achieved by the five newly developed instruments.

Process mass spectrometers and biomass measuring instruments must form a real product; infrared spectrometers and cell microscopic morphology measuring instruments should lay a solid foundation for the formation of products; and isotope 13C's micrometabolic flow measurement instrument development is a forward-looking international advanced level. The research work is also needed for the development of our national science.

The project was formally launched in July this year, but the preparation work has been going on for more than a year. Therefore, Professor Zhang Xiaoliang is already very aware of the success of the project. Professor Zhang Xiaoliang was very pleased to mention that the process mass spectrometer developed jointly with the domestic scientific instrument manufacturer Shanghai Haoyu Hengping Scientific Instrument Co., Ltd. has already formed a product. At present, 6-7 users are trying out, and there are also users waiting in line. a lot of.

Professor Zhang Xiaoliang believes that China will form a certain "climate" in the process of mass spectrometry after 3 years.

What are the problems in the current development of scientific instruments in China? How can we develop rapidly?

Professor Zhang Xiaoliang thinks that there are two problems in the development of scientific instruments in China that should be paid attention to. First, the state has invested a lot in the research and development of sophisticated instruments, but our sophisticated instruments are mostly followed by advanced international technologies. Imitation. The second is low-end equipment, the same product a number of companies produce low-cost competition with each other, forming a vicious circle, which is harmful to the development of China's scientific instrument industry.

In addition, for the rapid development of scientific instruments in China, Prof. Zhang Qiliang suggested that in order to make rapid development of scientific instruments in China, several key application industries should be selected to make the scientific instrument industry develop together with the application industry. When talking about this, Professor Zhang Xiaoliang used the biological process industry as an example to introduce his advantages.

Prof. Zhang Xiaoliang emphasized many times that the development of our country's scientific instruments must be combined with the development of the application industry, and together with the application industry, it must be realized from scratch and from small to large. The development of scientific instruments in China should be "indomitable," and "top of the sky" means the development of high-precision instruments. "Establishment" means the development of low-end instruments. Both are indispensable.
