Sino-German joint production of large tunnel boring machine in Shen Shen

Recently, a state-of-the-art hard rock double shield tunnel boring machine, jointly developed by Shenyang Heavy Machinery Group Co., Ltd., China Railway Tunnel Group, and Germany's Wilt Group, has been successfully manufactured. Chinese and German engineers gathered to take a group photo with this massive machine, which measures 5.93 meters in diameter and stretches 160 meters in length, weighing a total of 710 tons. This advanced tunneling machine is set to be deployed in the large-scale water transfer project in Qinghai, marking a significant milestone in modern tunnel construction. As one of the most sophisticated full-section tunneling machines globally, it is designed for high-efficiency excavation in challenging rock conditions. The machine features a 51-bit cutter head driven by six variable frequency motors, allowing it to excavate at a speed of up to 6 meters per hour. Equipped with integrated mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and digital technologies, it enables seamless excavation, spoil removal, and support systems within the tunnel. This cutting-edge equipment represents a major leap forward in engineering innovation, combining precision, efficiency, and safety in underground construction.
