Gurnee and Warren Waukegan Fire Protection District Unveil New Fire Station #3

GURNEE, IL – The Village of Gurnee and the Warren Waukegan Fire Protection District (WWFPD) officially opened Fire Station #3 on Wednesday, October 13th at 1:00 PM. The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a community celebration at the new facility located at 5330 Manchester Drive. This new station is designed to support the growing needs of the area and will serve as a critical addition to the existing fire stations in the village and district.

The building spans 14,452 square feet and will be staffed by five firefighter/paramedics. It will also house two ambulances and one ladder truck, ensuring efficient emergency response capabilities. The location was carefully chosen to enhance response times, especially during peak call volumes, and offers easy access to major highways like I-94 and Route 120.

The project was part of long-term planning by the Village of Gurnee. Originally bid at around $6.3 million in 2019, it was included in the 2020–2021 capital budget. However, construction was delayed in April 2020 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In June 2020, after reviewing rising costs and supply chain issues, the contractor advised seeking new bids. The final cost came in at $5.8 million, and despite the challenges of the time, the project remained on track without major disruptions.
