The Village of Gurnee and Warren Waukegan Fire Protection District Celebrate the Grand Opening of Fire Station 3

GURNEE, IL – The Village of Gurnee and the Warren Waukegan Fire Protection District (WWFPD) recently held a special event to mark the grand opening of Fire Station 3, located at 5330 Manchester Drive in Gurnee, IL 60031. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 13th at 1:00 PM, drawing community members, local officials, and emergency responders.

Fire Station 3 is a vital addition to the existing fire stations that serve both the Village of Gurnee and the WWFPD. At 14,452 square feet, this modern facility will be staffed by five firefighter/paramedics and will house two ambulances and one ladder truck. Its strategic location is expected to improve emergency response times, especially during high-demand periods, and offers easy access to major highways like Interstate 94 and Route 120.

The project was the result of years of planning and analysis by the Village of Gurnee. Originally estimated at around $6.3 million in 2019, the construction was included in the 2020–2021 capital budget. However, due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the project faced delays in April 2020. In June 2020, as construction and supply chain conditions evolved, the contractor recommended seeking new bids, which came in at $5.8 million. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the project remained on track and was completed without significant setbacks.

This new station not only enhances public safety but also reflects the community’s commitment to investing in essential services that support residents and first responders alike.
