The material is commonly referred to as cemented carbide, hard metal, or tungsten-carbide cobalt. It is a metal matrix composite consisting of tungsten carbide particles embedded in a cobalt matrix. This composition makes it extremely hard and capable of withstanding high temperatures, making it ideal for use in high-speed drill bits and other cutting applications.
