Working fire in Northbrook, 5-6-20

Northbrook firefighters were dispatched to 4040 Timberlane Drive, located in an unincorporated area of Cook County, on May 6, 2020, after reports of smoke coming from a house. A Cook County Sheriff’s Department officer arrived first and reported visible flames from the roof. This location is near the far southwest corner of Northbrook’s jurisdiction, close to the borders of Glenview, Wheeling, and Prospect Heights. The only hydrant for this several-block stretch of road is at the entrance on Sanders Road, prompting a response from Prospect Heights Fire Department’s Tanker 9. Upon arrival, Northbrook Engine 10 was the first fire suppression unit on scene and laid a 5-inch hose line from the hydrant to the structure. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and an advanced attic fire upon arrival, which led to the alarm being upgraded to a working fire. Additional units from Glenview and Wheeling, along with all Northbrook fire companies and Prospect Heights Tanker 9, responded to the incident. The fire was initially attacked using tank water until a reliable water supply could be established. Multiple lines were used to bring the fire under control. Northbrook Tower 12 ventilated the roof from their aerial platform. Fortunately, no one was inside the home at the time of the fire. Photos from the scene show firefighters in full gear, battling thick smoke, and entering the structure with a hoseline. The fire appeared to be well-developed, and crews worked quickly to contain it. Despite the challenging conditions, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
