These are some photos taken on Thursday, April 26, 1962. The fire was classified as a 5-11 plus one alarm at 2710 South Throop Street. The building belonged to the National Plywood Company and was located along the future route of the Stevenson Expressway. During the early 1960s, there were several major fires in buildings that were set to be demolished for the construction of the Dan Ryan and Stevenson Expressways. While I'm not certain if this fire was caused by arson, it occurred just before the expressway project began. It's also interesting to note that this location was just a block south of where Engine 28's current station would be built a year or so later. The time recorded was 1:36 in the afternoon.
