TenCate wins orders for attack ship armor materials

Recently, Huntington Ingles Industries awarded TenCate Advanced Armor Company a sub-contract for the supply of armor materials to support the construction of the "US" class large deck amphibious assault ship No. 2 "Tripoli" (LHA7).
In 2012, the US Navy awarded Huntington Ingles Industries a $2.38 billion fixed-price plus incentive contract for the design and construction of a multi-purpose amphibious assault ship.
Mark Edwards, president of TenCate Advanced Armored America, said that protecting the safety of the crew is still the highest goal of the US Department of Defense. "Our advanced materials and manufacturing capabilities have enabled Ingles Shipyard to apply these materials to their latest ships," Edwards said.
The "Tripoli" and "United States" ( LHA 6) are the first two ships of the "US" class amphibious assault ship, which can be used to deliver Marine Corps troops. The US-class amphibious assault commander, 257 meters long and 32.3 feet wide, can carry 1,059 crew members, can accommodate Marine Corps helicopters, the MV22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft and the F35B Joint Strike Fighter aircraft. The Tripoli has improved aviation capabilities, including an expanded hangar deck, adjustments and expansion of aviation maintenance facilities, increased storage capacity for spare parts and support equipment, and more aviation fuel capacity, which is expected to be delivered to the Navy in 2018.
