HJ3’s CarbonSeal™ Industrial Composite Systems Receive PEMEX Approval for Steel Pipe Repair and Reinforcement
HJ3's innovative CarbonSealâ„¢ Industrial Composite Systems have just received a major endorsement from PEMEX, one of Mexico's most influential energy companies. This approval marks a significant step forward in the application of HJ3's advanced carbon fiber technology for repairing and strengthening both low-risk and high-risk corroded or damaged steel pipelines. The system is now approved for use across all stages of the oil and gas industry, including onshore, offshore, exploration, refining, transmission, and distribution pipelines.
"This is a huge milestone for HJ3," said Jim Butler, President and Co-founder of the company. "With over 10,000 applications completed globally for civil and industrial infrastructure, this qualification opens up new opportunities in the Latin American petrochemical and gas markets. Our carbon fiber solutions offer superior strength per layer, which can significantly cut costs for companies like PEMEX compared to traditional repair methods or full replacements."
The approval was granted after HJ3 successfully passed a rigorous evaluation by the Instituto Mexicano del Petróleo (IMP). The process involved comprehensive strength and durability tests aligned with ASME PCC-2 Article 4.1 Appendix III and ISO/TS 24817 standards for pressure equipment and piping repairs. Notably, HJ3's CarbonSeal™ system passed a burst test, demonstrating its ability to withstand internal pressures exceeding 5,000 psi—even when applied to areas with 80–90% steel wall loss.
2012 has been a transformative year for HJ3 Composite Technologies, marking a decade of innovation and progress. The company was once again recognized with the Arizona Innovation Challenge Grant from the Arizona Commerce Authority, winning over 400 competitors. HJ3 also received the prestigious title of "Technology Company of the Year" from the Minority and Small Business Alliance of Southern Arizona. With more than 25 years of large-scale testing and 20,000 hours of product evaluations, HJ3 continues to deliver high-performance materials to leading global companies such as ExxonMobil, Shell Oil, British Petroleum, and now PEMEX.
As one of the largest companies in Mexico and Latin America, PEMEX plays a critical role in the country's economic and sustainable development. It is one of the few global oil companies that manages every aspect of petroleum production—from exploration and extraction to refining and the distribution of final products.
Copper tube, also known as purple copper tube. A type of non-ferrous metal pipe is a seamless pipe that is pressed and drawn. Copper pipes have strong and corrosion-resistant properties, making them the preferred choice for modern contractors to install water pipes, heating, and cooling pipes in all residential commercial buildings. Copper pipe is the best water supply pipeline.
