Fatal fire in Arlington Heights, 2-4-21

On Thursday, February 4, 2021, around 8:20 a.m., firefighters from Arlington Heights, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, and Mount Prospect were called to 1929 N Spruce Terrace in Arlington Heights after reports of a house fire. As they made their way to the scene, crews were informed that two residents might still be inside the home, and neighbors had mentioned that the property was in a hoarder condition. Upon arrival, Engine 2 confirmed flames at the rear of the house. They immediately secured a hydrant down the street, followed by Palatine Engine 83 setting up in front of the residence. Firefighters entered the home to search for the occupants and located two adults. Both individuals were quickly assisted by paramedics and transported by ambulance for medical evaluation. The fire was fully under control within 15 minutes, but crews continued to monitor the area for any remaining hot spots or smoldering embers hidden among the cluttered contents of the home. Despite the efforts of first responders, it was later confirmed that neither of the two occupants who were pulled from the house survived the incident.
