Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, and Mount Prospect were called to 1929 N Spruce Terrace in Arlington Heights around 8:20 AM on Thursday, February 4, 2021, after reports of a house fire. As they responded, crews were informed that two residents might still be inside the home, and neighbors had mentioned that the property was in a hoarder condition, which likely complicated rescue efforts.
Upon arrival, Engine 2 confirmed flames at the rear of the house. They immediately set up a hydrant a block away, while Palatine Engine 83 positioned itself in front of the residence. Firefighters entered the structure to search for the occupants and successfully located two adults. Both individuals were quickly taken out and given immediate medical attention before being transported by ambulance.
The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes, but crews continued to monitor the area for any remaining hot spots or smoldering embers hidden among the cluttered contents of the home. Despite the swift response, it was later confirmed that neither of the two residents who were pulled from the building survived the incident.
