Japan Machine Tool Industry Association: Japanese machine tool orders increased by 52.2% in the first half of the year

According to the latest machine tool order data released by the Japan Machine Tool Industry Association (JMTBA), in June 2011, Japan's machine tool orders amounted to 128.373 billion yen, an increase of 18.8% from the previous month's 108.16 billion yen, compared to June 2010. It increased by 53.3%.

In June, the order book of Japan's machine tools rebounded month-on-month, and the year-on-year growth rate also increased. The order volume hit a recent high. Although the earthquake and tsunami did not directly affect the machine tool industry, the downstream Japanese manufacturing industry was greatly affected. It is expected that domestic orders in Japan will recover over time. At the same time, due to the slowdown in overseas demand growth, coupled with the increase in the base, there will be no further surge in orders last year.

In June, Japan's overseas machine tool orders amounted to 86.681 billion yen, a year-on-year increase of 14.4% and a year-on-year increase of 59%. In the first half of the year, domestic orders for Japanese machine tools accumulated to 207.972 billion yen, an increase of 54.4% year-on-year; cumulative overseas orders were 466.12 billion yen, an increase of 52.2% year-on-year.

From the perspective of domestic and international demand, in June, Japan's domestic machine tool orders amounted to 41.692 billion yen, an increase of 29.1% from the previous quarter and an increase of 42.6% year-on-year.

Japan's machine tool orders have been growing for 19 consecutive months, and exceeded 100 billion yen for six consecutive months. In the first half of 2011, Japan's accumulated machine tool orders amounted to 674.092 billion yen, an increase of 52.9% over the same period in 2010.
