It is reported that by 2006 all urban areas in the country will be prohibited from mixing concrete on site.
According to the news from the Department of Resource Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization of the State Economic and Trade Commission, China's current capacity for mixing concrete is only 147 million cubic meters, which is still far from the international advanced level. A considerable portion of the 2.36 million tons of cement dust that enters the air each year causes serious pollution to the environment and has become one of the major air pollution sources in the city. Therefore, the “10th Five-Year Plan for Bulk Cement Development” clearly stipulates that municipalities, capital cities, coastal open cities, and tourist cities will actively develop ready-mixed concrete, and will prohibit the mixing of concrete in urban areas on December 31, 2003.
